CASE: INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY MANUFACTURING

ABOUT SICCADANIA

SiccaDania is a market-leading specialist in both stand-alone single-unit operations as well as complete solutions for the dairy, food, starch, and plant-based protein industry. Lactoferrin powder, infant formula, protein powder, freeze-dried fruit & vegetables, instant coffee, and starch are examples of products that can be processed on SiccaDania equipment.

In 2014, a group of engineers with vast experience in the drying and evaporating industries established SiccaDania, a company which focuses on creating the solutions their customers want. From the humble beginning with no more than 10 people, they now have a global footprint with offices in Denmark, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, China, Brazil, and Canada, and more than 400 employees.

SICCADANIA CLOUD CARVE-OUT

A GLOBAL CLOUD TRANSITION OF 400 USERS WITHOUT USER IMPACT

The Challenge: Modernization and Security Enhancement for Engineering

“SiccaDania was at a stage where we had slowly grown out of a traditional outsourcing model and needed a vertically oriented cloud partner who could grow with us on a global scale. The aim was to modernize and secure the technology landscape for our future digital transformation, and help Siccadania escalate time-to-market with Desktop-as-a-Service for engineering.

As a global production and engineering company, security is also of highest priority for us. Our intellectual property is in high demand with cybercriminals. Hence, we are prone to cyberattacks and wanted a major enhancement of our cyber resilience in this process as well.”

Transition Excellence Clears the Path for the Next Cloud Transformation Milestones

“Lean-On shared our ambitions to deliver this platform with the highest quality. After a successful transition to the Lean-On cloud platform and services, we must say that we are well and truly on the way with happy and productive users. Instead of a traditional ‘lift & shift’ approach only, where you take the existing applications and migrate them to a new cloud environment, we saw opportunities to actually transform and modernize with Lean-On. Our requirement of enhancing our cyber resilience could also be met by all the security services within the Lean-On cloud such as market-leading firewall, disaster recovery, application delivery control, patch management and AI technologies.

The cloud carve-out was quite a demanding project, not only because of time pressure but also due to potential risks around our business-critical applications. The transition was done in a few months after signing the agreement. Users now work globally on a high-performance private cloud, and are ready to face the next level, in entering a global and secure Software-as-a-Service cloud model, where we will have a global centralization with advanced virtual desktops for our engineers worldwide.

During the transition process, we worked closely with Lean-On. Immediately we felt safe with our partner, who has vast experience in cloud carve-out and transition projects. Holistic and customized support was provided throughout the entire transition phase.

The highly dynamic provisioning of skills in all layers and aspects of the transition, gave us exactly the right expertise needed, at each major step of the project. This meant that at changeover date, the users were able to work as usual with no impact on productivity.

Business-critical operations and applications all had a smooth and secure transition, and we are now eager to move forward with the next stages of our cloud transformation with Lean-On.”

While image quality is the same as working from a local workstation, we have a much faster speed when loading, syncing and saving drawings. This ensures a high productivity and agility of our engineers, and our ability to establish a global ‘follow the sun’ workflow.
